Rain evidently does a lot to put people in a sexy mood, as 80 percent of U.S. adults say they have had sex during a rainstorm, a survey indicates.

A survey by the makers of Trojan Brand Condoms found 83 percent of Americans rate rain as the best weather for sexual intercourse, while seven in 10 say they have had sex during extreme weather, such as a thunderstorm, a tornado or a hurricane.

Miami, which tops the list for having the most sexual activity — 102 times a year per person — also tops the list for most sex during a hurricane. Twenty-seven percent of Miami’s residents say they have had sex during a hurricane. Residents of Miami also report having the longest periods of sexual activity — about 35 minutes per session.

People in colder cities like Minneapolis report having sex 64 times per year, Seattle reports 75 times per year, while Phoenix, Chicago and Denver report the having the shortest durations of sex — about 26 minutes per session.

However, it can be too hot for sex — 35 percent of Americans report delaying sex until temperatures dropped. Despite the weather preferences, 66 percent say they are ready for sex regardless of the weather — four in 10 say they have had sex outside on a rainy day.

The survey of about 1,000 U.S. adults conducted by StrategyOne has 3.1 percentage points. The survey of 150 adults in the 10 largest cities has a margin of error of 8 percentage points.

A majority of acrylic and glass dildos are handheld only.  Glass and Acrylic dildos don’t have a wide base, thus they are not mountable or strapable; however, similar to silicone dildos they range in price and are very easy to clean.  Using soap and warm water does a great job of cleaning these toys.   Word of caution:  Acrylic should be washed in warm water since hot water can cause tiny cracks in the surface, which clouds the toy. Glass can generally be placed in hot water which means they can be boiled or put through the dishwasher.  Glass dildos are really durable and resist breakage.

Dildos that are made out of silicone are the most popular.  Silicone is flexible, adapts to body temperature quickly, and have a decent range in prices. Silicone dildos also come in a variety of styles from simple to curved, textured and vibrating.

Pure silicone dildos are durable, hypoallergenic, and non-porous which means they can be cleaned and disinfected.  Silicone toys will last you a very long time, unless the surface gets punctured. Once punctured, the rip will spread until the dildo falls apart deeming it unrepairable. Keep your silicone dildos away from sharp fingernails, edges of counters, etc etc.

Cleaning your silicone dildo is a cinch.  Soap and warm water will do the job. If you want to thoroughly clean your toy you can: put it in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes, place it on the top rack of the dishwasher, or place it in a 10% bleach solution for 15 minutes and wash it off with water.  Simply wiping your toy with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide will NOT disinfect your toy.

Silicone comes in many sizes and shapes. Some of them are simple and smooth like the Silk Dildo.  Some are more realistic and look more like penises, while others come with different textures liked ribbed dildos with bumps.  For anal play, aim for a smoother toy since the anus is more sensitive than the vagina.

Softskin also known as Cyberskin, is an amazingly realistic material that feels closest to the real thing.  Softskin possesses the perfect blend of firm and flexible to feel like a penis.

There is a drawback though: cleaning softskin can be tricky. Softskin is very porous, so you should cover your softskin dildo with a  condom.  After washing and drying, softskin gets sticky.  The way to deal with that is storing your dry softskin dildo in a plastic bag or you dusting it with cornstarch.

If you are using cornstarch, the easiest way is to put the dildo and a spoonful of cornstarch in a paper bag and shake it up. Make sure you rinse off your softskin dildo off before using it because cornstarch absorbs lube and gets gritty. NEVER use talcum / baby powder since it has been linked with ovarian cancer.

A majority of dildos are available in four different types of materials: jelly, silicone, softskin, or acrylic / glass. Each material is different in the way it feels, so if you know about what you’re looking for, the choice will be easy.

Let’s begin with the Jelly dildo.  The jelly dildo is least expensive of the dildos.  They may be inexpensive, but their low price is the only thing that they have going for them.  Jelly dildos are difficult to clean since they’re quite porous. We strongly suggest covering all jelly toys with condoms, EVEN if you’re the only person using it. Also, Jelly dildos may be too flexible for some people’s tastes and the material wont last too long.  Jelly toys often smell like plastic, but eventually goes away. So what it boils down to is – jelly dildos are your best bet if you’re not looking for something to last forever or your primary concern is cost.

Size

Size is the most important characteristic when choosing the best dildo . If it’s too small it won’t hit the spot, however, if it’s too big  you might not ever use it and may even bring discomfort. The easiest way to gauge the size of the dildo you might like is to consider a partner’s penis or a toy that has worked well for you in the past.  The other (harder) way to gauge the size of the dildo is to do the cucumber test.

Yes, you heard that right – the cucumber test.  A cucumber is an excellent way to determine the best dildo size for you.  Here’s how to go about doing the cucumber test.

1. Take a trip to your grocery’s produce section.
2. Look around and choose a few cucumbers that vary in size.
3. Organic Cucumbers are best, but generally it’s best to either peel the cucumber or wash it VERY well and cover it with a condom since waxes and pesticides should stay outside the body.
4. If the cucumber is cold, you may want to warm it slightly in the microwave.  Unless of course you like it cold.
5. Now comes the fun!  This may require some modifying of the cucumber.  If the cucumber is too big, shave it down until it fits nicely and is comfortable for you. If you’re feeling extra handy – you could carve it to give you a nice G-spot curve or a head.
6. Once you’ve found the right size, it’s time to measure it. Using a tape measure, measure the length and width (diameter) of the cucumber.  Voila! You’ve officially found the best size for you.  Use these measurements to refer to when choosing the best dildo for you!

Remember that using a cucumber vaginally is fine, but don’t use it for anally. Since the cucumber doesn’t have a base, it could potentially slide all the way in, causing a serious situation.
